CAHAYA padded acoustic guitar gig bag, front view

The short version

Padding thickness is the only specification that decides whether a gig bag protects anything, and most sellers avoid printing it. CAHAYA prints it: 0.35 of an inch, which is about nine millimetres. That is enough to absorb a scrape, a door frame and light rain, and it is not enough to save a guitar from a real drop or from being stacked under luggage. The exterior is 600D Oxford cloth, the zip is a two-way metal one rather than plastic, and there are two exterior pockets and a padded bottom.

What it gets right

  • Publishes its padding thickness, which most competitors will not
  • Backpack straps and two handles, so it can be carried either way
  • Two-way metal zip rather than the plastic ones that fail first
  • Two exterior pockets, including one sized for a tuner and picks

Where it gives ground

  • 0.35 in of padding is scratch protection, not impact protection
  • Water-resistant, not waterproof: it will survive drizzle, not a downpour
  • Fits 39 to 41 inch bodies only, so measure before buying

What owners report

Patterns drawn from published owner reviews. Summarised, never quoted.

What comes up most

  • The backpack straps are what owners mention most
  • Build quality and zip action are repeatedly praised for the price
  • The pockets are cited as unusually useful for a budget bag

Frequent complaints

  • Owners expecting hard-case protection are the most common disappointment
  • Some report the fit being loose on a smaller-bodied guitar
  • A minority report zip pulls breaking after a year

Recognised strengths

  • Consistent reports that it does exactly what a padded bag should

Recognised weaknesses

  • It is a bag, and no bag at this padding depth survives a real impact

The verdict

Buy this if the guitar moves between rooms, to a lesson, or in the back of a car, which covers most people. Do not buy it expecting case-like protection: under about half an inch, a bag is scratch and weather protection rather than impact protection, and if the guitar is going in a boot with other things or onto public transport, a hard case is the honest answer. Within those limits it is a well-made bag - the backpack straps are the feature owners use most, and the neck pocket takes a tuner and a capo.
