The short version
The bass version of Fender's moulded case, and the comparison worth making is against a plywood one. A moulded polyethylene shell flexes slightly under a sharp impact and spreads the load, where plywood is stiffer and transmits more of a knock; plastic is also lighter, which matters a great deal on an instrument this long. Inside, an EPS foam nest is cut to hold the body so the bass cannot shift, and the centre latch takes a TSA lock.

What it gets right
- Moulded shell absorbs a sharp impact better than a rigid wood one
- Noticeably lighter than a plywood case of the same size
- EPS foam nest cut to shape, so the bass cannot move in transit
- TSA-approved locking latch
Where it gives ground
- Cut for a Fender-shaped body; check an unusual outline before buying
- Little in the way of accessory storage
- Still a two-hand object to move any distance
Who it is for
What owners report
Patterns drawn from published owner reviews. Summarised, never quoted.
What comes up most
- Fit on Precision and Jazz basses is consistently reported as exact
- Weight compared with wood cases is frequently mentioned
Frequent complaints
- Owners of non-Fender body shapes report fit problems
- Lack of an accessory compartment comes up regularly
- A minority report latch alignment issues out of the box
Recognised strengths
- Does the core job, and the fit on Fender shapes is not in doubt
Recognised weaknesses
- Shape-specific in a category where bass outlines vary a lot
The verdict
The sensible case for a bass that travels, and the weight saving over a wood case is the argument that will actually persuade you after carrying one. Two things to check before ordering. It is cut for a Fender-shaped body, so an instrument with a longer horn or an unusual outline may not seat properly, and a case that does not fit is worse than no case. And there is no real accessory compartment to speak of, so cables and a tuner travel elsewhere.
